Two little kids shot in leg while riding bike in...
Did anyone else read these two articles — one from a week ago, and one from just yesterday — about kids being shot in the leg by stray bullets while riding their bikes outside their homes?
Boy, 9, shot riding his bike (NY Post)
2-year-old girl struck in leg by stray bullet while riding bike (Daily News)
Scary stuff.

The rain held off tonight, and it turned into a perfect evening for one of Time’s Up’s monthly “Moonlight Rides” through Prospect Park.
If you’ve never done one of these (they have one in Central Park each month too!), you MUST try it out. The Prospect Park ride is always the second Saturday of every month — even in the winter!
Our leader, Jonathan, took us...

5 Best Places to Bike in Brooklyn
We all know there have been a lot of improvements to the bike infrastructure in New York in recent years — and Brooklyn has been at the epicenter of that. So what, I have challenged myself to determine, are the most blissful places to bike in Brooklyn right now? Here’s what I picked (at least as of today):
5) Clinton and Henry Sts — No protected paths and lots of traffic...

Somebody
Took a couple photos on my ride over two East River bridges this morning.
Someone has painted red hearts on each of the stenciled bike lane symbols on the Manhattan Bridge:
And speaking of paint, the resurfaced Williamsburg Bridge path has new paint on the north side!

Should bikers obey traffic signals?
Vanessa from For the Love of Bikes makes some nice points following up on a NY Times Op-Ed about a cyclist who has been testing out (gasp!) stopping at all red lights.
Continuing to improve bike infrastructure is going to lead to better behaved bikers! On busy roads, coasting through a red light can sometimes be your only reprieve from hearing side-view mirrors wizz by your ears.

libraries:
you pass me while revving your engine. you get stopped half a block later behind a line of other motorists. i pass you speeding by on my little bicycle. you remain sitting there looking like an even bigger asshole in your ratty-ass camaro.

Ezekiel's wheels vision (I like to call it his...
“When the living creatures moved, the wheels moved beside them; and when the living creatures rose from the earth, the wheels rose. Wherever the spirit would go, they went, and the wheels rose along with them; for the spirit of the living creatures was in the wheels. When they moved, the others moved; when they stopped, the others stopped; and when they rose from the earth, the wheels...

Streetsblog gives a nice recap of a public meeting this week on the proposed addition of a two-way Flushing Avenue bike lane — part of the Brooklyn Waterfront Greenway initiative.
Seems the plans are hardly a done deal…

Jamaica Bay bike path is kinda gross right now
I biked most of the Jamaica Bay bike path in Brooklyn for the first time today. It was kind of gross.
Things I had to bike through/over/past/under/around:
1) A 200-yard stretch of detour through packed dirt and deep, soft sand (Melissa actually fell while walking her bike).
2) Two miles of re-routed, bumpy bike lane.
3) Narrow paths over several deteriorating bridges — inches from...

Williamsburg Bridge path "a mess" this week with... →
I haven’t been on the bridge at all this week, but it sounds like things have been pretty dicey since the southern path was closed for repairs.
At least on the Brooklyn Bridge, there’s clearly one lane for bikes and one for pedestrians…
Any stories you can share from the Willy B this week?

One question they asked that I thought was great was: Are there any parts of the CB6 bike network that are particularly dangerous? Here’s one of my responses:
“Union Street through Park Slope is pretty dicey sometimes — and it’s a route I commonly take after riding east from Carroll Gardens on the Union Street bike lane toward Prospect Park.”
What do you think?
